Modules
- Module 1: Different parts, functions and adjustments of a harness
- Module 2: Emergency planning for equids
- Module 3: Climate change and emerging diseases
- Module 4: Train the trainer
Learning outcomes
- Assess and use a harness correctly with working equids.
- Identify incorrect use of harnesses and explain the consequences for the health and welfare of working equids.
- Deliver a session to a community or project team, covering key aspects of harnessing, using accessible language and locally relevant examples. Learners will also be able to address cultural misconceptions and encourage positive behaviour change through effective community engagement strategies.
Time needed for course completion
- 2 hours
Note: depending on the specific work performed by working equids (e.g. pack animals, cart animals, or those used in agroforestry), and the need of improving existing harness systems, the following courses can be included in the training programme: Do it Yourself (DIY) collar; DIY packsaddle; DIY cart harness; DIY multipurpose donkey cart.
