Learning outcomes

• Assess the risk of heat stress and heat stroke in working equids and take preventative actions to reduce the risk, including allowing access to water, shelter, and rest breaks. Learners will also be able to recognise the signs of heat stress and heat stroke in donkeys and other equids and respond appropriately to affected animals to prevent further deterioration and/or losses. 
• Apply contextually relevant emergency planning and disaster response measures for equids at the preparation, response, and recovery stages for disasters such as fires and floods in high-risk areas to increase the likelihood of equid survival and assist with reunification. 
• Explain how climate change will affect equid infectious disease patterns to increase awareness of the potential for new outbreaks in disease-free regions. 
• Deliver a session to a community or project team, covering key aspects of equid care in extreme heat conditions, using accessible language and locally relevant examples.
