Learning outcomes

• Explain the principles of Preventive veterinary medicine within the context of One Health/One 
• Welfare approach to equid health management globally. 
• Identify common infectious and zoonotic diseases and their causative agents affecting donkeys and recognise associated clinical signs and describe appropriate diagnostic methods used for their detection. 
• Design and justify effective biosecurity, vaccination, and communication strategies to prevent and control infectious diseases in donkeys/mules.
• Identify common gastrointestinal helminth parasites infecting donkeys and diagnose their infection and apply an integrated parasite control programme that considers anthelmintic resistance and ecological impacts.
• Recognise major haemoparasites of donkeys, understand their epidemiology and recommend appropriate diagnostic, treatment, and control measures. 
• Identify key ectoparasites affecting donkeys, apply appropriate diagnostic approaches, and apply evidence-based treatment and control strategies, while promoting the rational use of acaricides/insecticides to minimise the risk of resistance development
