  • Module 1: Differences between donkey and horse hooves
  • Module 2: Trimming the donkey hoof
  • Module 3: Recognising and managing a lame donkey
  • Module 4: Common conditions of the hoof
  • Module 5: Laminitis in the donkey
  • Module 6: Flexural deformity of the distal interphalangeal joint

Learning outcomes

  • Understand the differences between donkey and horse hooves, including radiographic findings.
  • Recognise a lame donkey.
  • Understand how to trim a normal donkey hoof and an overgrown hoof.
  • Identify and treat common conditions of the donkey hoof.
  • Understand the welfare implications of poor hoof care and lameness.
  • Understand how to manage challenging donkey behaviour when working with hooves.
  • Provide effective analgesia, at the appropriate dose and intervals for donkeys.
