Learning outcomes

  • Describe the phases of the reproductive cycle of donkeys, including seasonal variations and behavioural signs of oestrus.
  • Explain and compare different breeding methods.
  • Create a prenatal care plan that includes detection methods, nutrition adjustments, and workload considerations for each trimester of donkey pregnancy.
  • Support and manage the female and foal during the process of normal foaling.
  • Complete a post-foaling checklist for both mare and foal including a care routine for orphan foals during the first six months of life.
  • Assess a case of dystocia, identify the likely cause, and select the most appropriate emergency intervention method based on clinical signs.
  • Diagnose and treat/manage common reproductive disorders in donkeys.
  • Diagnose and treat neonatal disorders in newborn foals
