INTC103 - Equid Dentistry for Veterinary Students

This course is designed to support veterinary students and to increase their knowledge about equid dentistry. Dental disease is a prevalent health and welfare concern for equids, and much emphasis is placed upon quality prophylaxis from an early age.

We hope that you will gain a broad understanding of the topics included in each module, and how working with reliable information can make a big difference for the health and welfare of the equids in our care.

Outcomes for this course:

  1. Understand and use the Triadan system
  2. Recognise normal and abnormal dental anatomy
  3. Determine age through the teeth
  4. List the components of the oral examination (intra and extra oral)
  5. Perform a complete oral examination
  6. Recognise the clinical signs of oral and dental disease
  7. Select the instruments and equipment necessary to perform basic orodental treatments
  8. Recognise the importance of dental problems in equids, including working equids (developmental and/or acquired) and select appropriate treatments
