Equid Dental Prevention and Treatment

Participants will develop a deeper knowledge of the underpinning theories of equid dentistry and thereby, aid the promotion of practical skill for the prevention and treatment of dental disorders. Many common equid dental disorders are preventable in their early stages, so the appropriate application of clinically reasoned treatment has the potential to significantly affect welfare and promote quality of life. This course will also encompass non-specific skills such as evidence-based practice, clinical reasoning, literature review, communication and reflection.  The modules include Equid Dental Prevention, and Equid dental Treatment and Procedures.

Each topic/module will conclude with a short quiz.  It is anticipated this course will require in the region of 16 hours including delivered material, student-centred learning, and assessments.

 

Learning Objectives:

1. Describe Quality of Life (QOL) indicators including those relating to poor dental health.

2. Evaluate data to produce appropriate end of life markers.

3. Use knowledge to readily identify cases requiring referral to a specialist/institution

4. Describe treatment principles, practices, and protocols. 

5. Assess theoretical concepts/principles to produce an appropriate treatment plan.

6. Describe common equid nutritional requirements. 

7. Design protocols for feeding equids with dental disease

8. Monitor and evaluate the suitability of an equids diet

 

Prerequisites

  • Successful completion of Equid Dental Instrumentation (DENT104) would benifit any who enrol onto this course.
  • Language; a good standard of English
  • Computer access, with sound
  • Be able to access the internet and navigate webpages
  • ‘A’ Level biological science or vocational equivalent
