The aim of this course is to promote good health, welfare and wellbeing of donkeys worldwide by providing comprehensive guidance on their care. It enables us to share the vast expertise and experience of those working for, or with, The Donkey Sanctuary. It highlights the important issues that you need to be aware of about donkeys and includes evidence-based information, or that with which we have experience of at The Donkey Sanctuary.

Learning Outcomes:
By the end of the modules you should be able to do the following:
• Explain the origins of the donkey,
• Describe safe working practices when around donkeys,
• List the differences between horses and donkeys,
• Demonstrate how to correctly prepare a stable,
• Discuss how to manage a paddock,
• Recognize the importance of correct feeding,
• Demonstrate how to body condition score a donkey correctly,
• Discuss handling, grooming and the foot care of a donkey,
• Identify signs of good and ill health in a donkey,
• Recognize the importance of good hoof care,
• Recognize the importance of good dental care,
• Understand the importance of routine treatments, when and why they occur,
• Discuss the daily, weekly, monthly and yearly care requirements of donkey ownership,
• Demonstrate how to transport your donkey safely and the donkeys' other uses.
